Manhattan as a Living “SimCity” — Guided by AI

NYCSim is a digital twin of New York City: a dynamic virtual replica of the real city, continuously updated with real-world data. Running entirely in a web browser, it offers users an immersive Manhattan to explore. The platform integrates live public transport information, real-time air-quality readings and local weather updates, transforming a static urban model into a city map that appears to “breathe.” Behind the scenes, it automatically generates a detailed 3D model of Manhattan, incorporating approximately 86,000 road segments and 305,000 real building footprints.

One of its most impressive features is the AI-powered “City Concierge.” NYCSim is far more than a conventional map enhanced with 3D data. It has been designed to enable a large language model—the technology behind chatbots such as ChatGPT—to interpret what users are viewing on screen and respond to relevant questions. The result feels less like a traditional mapping application and more like an interactive urban simulation game—one powered by real-world data. (Maps Mania, 18 July 2026)
